The Books We Write

As we are all authors here it's only natural that we put up information about our books. Each book listed here will eventually have its own subsection, so you can expect those to come in future updates. All parts of every work here, including characters, plotline, scenario etc. are copyright (c) their respective owners.

Chain of the Realms Series

Co-written by both Ben and Hugh (and currently on hiatus) the “Chain of the Realms” series (name may be subject to change) will probably the one to watch from us. It will be a series of novels which details the journey of several mismatched characters and their adventures against the organisation of Di-Des (Please bear in mind that this is the vaguest possible description of the plot, as many details are not set in the stone), The story is an epic set across three worlds – Earth (our world), Sinne and Ommedon, and is very much in the High Fantasy genre. Originally we wrote a novel called “Orion: Chain of the Realms”, but stopped because we agreed on the fact that after some hard thinking, we thought it was rather bad. With the “Chain of the Realms” series, we hope to revamp everything we’ve created from the old story and turn it around into something amazing. (Copyright (c) Hugh Rodger and Benjamin Hall)

Liquid Gold

Written by Ben, mostly as part of NaNoWriMo 2007. This book tells the story of Jeremy, Kat and Steven, three ordinary English humans who all seek the Phoenix, and its legendary tears of divine power. However, the Phoenix protects the last domain on the planet where magic exists, defended by a barrier weaved of the Phoenix's own tears. Getting what they want could have disastrous consequences, and with the constant pressure of a manipulative psychic and a rapidly diminishing form of protection, they might not get it at all... This story focuses on the characters, and the fears, paranoia and manipulation they face and attempt to overcome just to make it out alive. An extract can be read on Ben's deviantART page. The Trail of Sorrow

Eris, a 16-year old girl is walking home from school; when strange creatures appear and tear her city apart. She is confronted by the leader Lord Raziel. She is told that she is of the half demon half human race named the Azurai, and is the daughter of Raziel. In order to return to their home world Azurus, Eris must walk through the magical realm between Earth and Azurus and completing dangerous tasks along the way in order to prove herself as a true Azurai. However, danger lurks ahead and even behind, as she is stalked by a bloodthirsty demon who will stop at nothing to tear Eris and her friends apart. Not only that, but another greater being lurks in the shadows, slowly consuming Eris’s soul from within… (Copyright (c) Hugh Rodger)

Claire's Books (She has a lot...)

The Yewoakvian Chronicles:
My first attempt at writing a novel, The Pheonix (yes I did spell Phoenix wrong, I know it’s on purpose) Warrior, was a badly written, extremely predictable copy of Brain Jacques’ Redwall. However, four years on, both my writing skills and understanding of plagiarism have improved considerably and The Pheonix Warrior and Quest for Galtemar have evolved into the Yewoakvian Chronicles. Yewoakva is an island dominated by the great Ash Forest at a time where floods have reduced most of the earth to islands and the humans generally populate smaller cities high above sea level. However, in Ash Forest there is a war taking place between the Red and Grey squirrels and only one animal can stop it, but powerful and cruel animals are happy to twist the situation to their own advantage. The Yewoakvian Chronicles are still very much, a work in progress.

Moonlight Rainbow or Moonlight Gift Trilogy
These are also animal stories, based this time around wolves and bats. In the world of the Ridge, Creek, Deepwoods and many wandering packs of wolves, there are some wolves born with the ability to use one or several of seven powers, collectively known as the Rainbow Gift. The first book (currently unnamed) centres around "One Ear", a young wolf who is part of the Ridge Pack but whose existence is unknown to most of the other Ridge Pack wolves. Why? Because he was involved, as a cub, in another wolf’s evil spell, one of his ears has been ripped off and one of his eyes is red (a sure sign of evil in the wolf world). But One Ear doesn’t want to be alone forever so, egged on by his friends the bats, he goes to the Pack Gathering against his adopted father’s will. There he meets the beautiful Raven, brave Pallo, cruel Strike and mysterious Jazira and a tale of love, ambition and a battle for freedom will begin.

The Spellbourne/Trix Trilogy (working title)
These stories are partly set in the real world and partly in the world of all magic, Trix. The main characters are the Frisk family, an ancient family of witches and their relatives. The Frisk girls, mischievous Katherine and shy Abigail, attend Spellbourne High, a school attended by both witches and mortals, along with vampyrs, elves and cat-people. But the magical world is in peril and strange things are happening in Spellbourne as well. While Abigail struggles to deal with a mysterious spy network within school, Katherine must journey into Trix and find the three great Wytches of Trix. Only then can the Frisk’s help to foil a plot that could destroy the portal from Spellbourne to Trix and suck half of Trix and most of England into a black hole! And that’s just the first book! Afterthought - Orion: Chain of the Realms

This was the first thing Hugh and I wrote. And it was very bad. It was cliched, badly paced, had wooden characters, and one of the most predictable storylines ever. If you really want to see for yourself we could send you an extract - but be warned, it's not for the fainthearted. This book spawned the far superior Chain of the Realms series.
